Shepard graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 2003 with a degree in Graphic Design,
and from Western Washington University in 1994 with degrees in U.S. History and American Cultural Studies.
Shepard has worked as a designer for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, in exhibition design for the

provided art direction and design for Visionaire, a limited edition, multi-format fashion and art quarterly; V Magazine, a fashion and lifestyle publication; and VMAN, a men's fashion magazine, in addition to designing and art directing various books, websites, exhibitions, and other projects. As Senior Art Director for Wax Poetics, Shepard re-designed the magazine in the Spring of 2008, and currently provides ongoing creative consultation.
Prior to embarking on his design career, Shepard served as editorial assistant in the crafts department at Martha Stewart Living magazine and as a producer of marthastewart.com; wrote for Seattle-based independent music magazines The Rocket and The Flavor; and founded and ran Conception Records, a music label formerly distributed through Sub Pop Records.
